Comcast Digital Cable v. Direct TV or Echo Star Help

24.4.252.12

I live in the greated Philadelphia, PA area. Comcast recently converted their local cable system to digital and I currently get basic cable television service (w/out the converter) and cable internet service.

I have been very happy with the internet service. Very fast and can upload/download large files in a snap. Cruising the net is great, my kids love the enhanced gaming opportunities as well.

Has anyone compared the comcast digital cable video and audio quality to Direct TV or Echo Star? To my eyes (on my 36" non-HD Cinema Series Toshiba TV), I think the Comcast Cable video quality has degraded somewhat since they converted to a digital signal.

The only problems with a Direct TV or Echo Star system install I can tell would be:

- house is located on a hill in a fairly windy location. Dish may get jostled.

- choosing andy buying appropriate equipment. The Direct TV and Echo Star converter boxes keep getting better. First Dolby Digital sound, now HD capable (but only a few program choices), can be costly.

- additional installation and equipment costs.

Anyway, if anyone has made a conversion from Comcast Cable to satellite service I would appreciate your thoughts. I am leaning toward one of the satellite systems, but waiting a bit until purchasing a large screen HD plasma or rear CRT.

Thanks for your help.
