Antony

Posted by dave c on June 15, 2007 at 23:23:26:

As you might guess from seeing him, Antony is a gay guy with possible trans-gender issues, but the voice of Nina Simone (in my opinion).
Get his album and you will not be disappointed. But it is serious adult stuff dealing with serious issues. Hear it to know what I am talking about.
The first time he was really heard of over here was when he was singing back up for Lou Reed and got to sing lead on a song or two. THen the Cohen concert and a tour of his own. The album got a reasonable amount of airplay here.
I saw him early last year when my girlfriend of the time threatened to wear a see through dress with just a g-string under it (and she looked sensational like that!!!) but with a pair of socks stuffed down them so she looked like my trannie lover... strange sense of humour that girl!
HE was great but a little single paced and will need to step up a second time around. But then he was an unknown quantity so there may not have been enough money for a bigger band. If I remember it was Antony on the piano, an acoustic guitarist and a cello player... maybe a drummer, but it lacked the variety and oomph of some of the album tracks.
BUt get the album and you will love it.
