These are two films that explore nothing beyond what you already know going in. Implausible setups in order to depict gruesome acts of violence. No character development, no scene development, and barely a plot in either. Eastern Promises fails from the start due to the movie's complete reliance upon the stupidity of Anna. And just who is this fearsome crime family, the leader of which does nothing more lethal than simmering borscht? Both films may be as effective as "300" in calling out the salivating hunter in men, but they represent some pretty weak filmmaking.
