You are really the only one who can find meaning in these things, but...
(1) Your father has passed something of worth on to you but you have forgotten it. You regret not having paid him more attention.
(2) You realise your father has passed/is passing through life while you are held back by your reluctance/nervousness and his experience can help you in tough times (rock/hard place image I think). His light (experience/wisdom) will light your way.
