Rotel RDV 985 Woes

Hello, all,

I have started having problems with my second Rotel RDV 985 DVD player, and I'm wondering if this model has reliability problems, or if I've just been unlucky.

I've bought them both used via eBay or craigslist. The first worked briefly, then began giving country code errors which I couldn't find a way to correct. Any suggestions on this, btw? Anyway, it was cheaper to get another than get it repaired, so I did that.

The replacement unit worked beautifully for a while but now most discs I play it behaves as though the disc is badly scratched or dirty; intermittent or distorted video or a blank screen. The audio portion, though, seems unaffected by this.

So, in sum, my questions are, is the 985 a hangar queen? Ideas on the country code problem? Suggestions on the disappearing video?
