Anyone familiar with the "calibration" option...

Posted by Jimmy C. on March 21, 2008 at 16:19:05:

...when buying a new LCD?

I was looking at a Sony at Best Buy, and the sales rep told me they can come to your home after a month or so of break-in, and optomize the picture quality. Also, supposedly this service allows the set to run cooler and maybe last longer... there was a demo of one calibrated, one not. Not sure to what to think.

Hell, he even said it'll pay for itself (eventually?) in saved energy! I asked if there was anyway I could do this myself, he said: "Yah, if ya have the $20,000 machine". Again, I dunno.

Ever hear of this? My feeling is this is more BS than real, but I know nada about it.

Thanks for any help...

Oh... P.S... the service is $300.
