RE: Absolute best 50" display?

You will be well served by searching out and reading the several reviews of the Pioneer, Panasonic and Sony. The answer partially depends upon your viewing conditions and what's most important to YOU. You can have more accurate colors, for example, at the expense of gray scale tracking.

Beware of one thing! Don't be misled by sets offering THX certification. Surprisingly, that is NOT a guarantee that the pictures will be identical. I have asked THX about this and they refuse to comment after telling me a few of the parameters which are considered in the rating.

I personally don't feel the Pioneer is worth the extra money and will probably get the Panasonic 800U.
