while watching movies, LCD/Plasma TV mounted on top of the fireplace mantle should be fine. However, if you are sitting on a sofa then you have to consider and address the neck strain issues. Here is a guideline that will mitigate the neck strain issue while watching TV. Vertical angle of view: Where this is not possible, the SMPTE guideline suggests that the maximum vertical angle measured at the seated eye height from the front row center seat to the topmost part of the TV screen of projected image, should not exceed 35 degrees.
