So far..."The Fly" and "The Fly 2"....the original with Vincent Price and David Hedison just never grabbed me...but Cronenberg's version seemed to be more compelling with superb special efx. Jeff Goldblum's off center treatment of it, makes it for me. Eric Stoltz is competent in "Fly 2" but he seems to go over the top, with his use of stare/glares...Goldblum's performance is where a little, goes far enough!
"Touch of Evil"...I always loved this film. Everyone delivers a satisfyingly evil performance. Standouts are many...Josephy Calleia is astounding in his supporting role. Charleton Heston gives a competent, straight forward performance with no ACT-Ting, in his portrayal of the, of Mexican extraction, Drug Czar. Dennis Weaver's role as the motel clerk is a hoot! Janet Leigh is one brassy, sexy woman, as the Heston character's wife. Just as hot as her co-star role in the cold war jet epic by Howard Hughes, "Jet Pilot".
"She Wore A Yellow Ribbon"...a classic use of color by John Ford. It underscores a sentimental script beautifully and faithfully. I can't wait for the DVD issues of "Sargeant Rutledge" and "Wings of Eagles"...especially "Rutledge"!
"On The Beach"...I finally got to sit down and enjoy this understated cold war drama, and appreciate the craft of Gregory Peck. One great actor. The drama is tasteful and not alarmistic or too much. Stanley Kramer at his best.
