dvdjournal.comlots of up-to-the-minute news about new releases, a large archive of DVD reviews...long, in depth, and "quick reviews". Some of the personal insight is sometimes uneducated, but on the whole it gives you what you want to know about making an "educated" purchase...if there is such a thing. A release calendar, a DVD lexicon, too!
CHUD.com
I just came upon this site. It's largely a one-man-band operation, but with a dash of biting sarcasm...largely non-offensive. Up-to-the-minute news, short interviews with film personalities.

Too much information, sometimes to wade through...but if you have the time to wade through it, be my guest. dvdjournal is current enough for me.
allmovieguide.com allmusicguide.comGreat reference source...interesting background material on every element of a film or CD you want to buy...a great check of what's out on DVD or VHS, too.
amazon.combelieve me, there is nothing like listening to a "customer review" of ANYTHING, before you make a purchase...if these things are genuinely from customers. It gives you some confidence...even if it's just a little.
dailyboxoffice.com
great, industry overview of both, retail DVD releases and theatrical releases. Not the traditional sources like Daily Variety, etc., but it's instant information, without the junk to wade through.
