"Mad Dog and Glory"

65.144.209.58

Just finished the DVD, of this film, and felt thoroughly entertained.

I got the idea to watch it, by viewing the "extra" Charlie Rose interview of Bill Murray, in the Criterion "Rushmore" package. Murray was asked his favorite film...and named this. I saw it in Borders for 9.99...so I couldn't resist.

It's very offbeat for everyone here, especially Bill Murray, who gives The Best, and his most confident, non-silly characterization of his entire career, this side of "Rushmore"...I haven't viewed my "Royal Tennenbaum" DVD yet. DeNiro is actually effecting too, foregoing any routine histrionics usually associated with a DeNiro "cop film".

When I say histrionics, I mean we don't "see" any acting going on, from ANYONE really, and THAT is the clue this is something special. It makes me know why they, all, chose to act in this "little film"...for the love of it, apparently.

Slipping way under the radar, this one is genuinely remarkable. All the copy is going to go their various Hyped efforts, while it's films like this one, that actually builds an actor's reputation. It's a shame SOMEONE with influence, isn't trumpeting this film, but no wonder too, I guess.

Go here to allmovieguide.com to get the plot summary.

It stars Robert DeNiro, Uma Thurman, Murray, and David Caruso in a supporting role. The film is written and Executive Produced by Richard Price, produced by Barbara De Fina and Martin Scorcese.
