Yes, that is fun to think about. It's a bit odd that I didn't question the idea. Considering the utter surreality of the opening credits for 'The Straight Story' which announced "Walt Disney Presents....a David Lynch film", I suppose it didn't seem that far a leap over to Brautigan. It's equally odd to consider that the director originally slotted for Dune a few years before Lynch directed his version was none other than Alejandro Jodorowsky (of El Topo fame), with Salvador Dali starring as the Emperor. That is not a joke!
Come to think of it, I think Lynch would do a fine job at Trout Fishing...let's petition the studios!
