below and I will second the recommendation for "A Taste of Cherry." I found it not slow at all, but deliberate. Brilliant film making with a superb actor as protagonist. The characters are fascinating and it's a rare insight into another culture we know so little about.
It works as either a political or philosophical piece, or as a cerebral "thriller."
But see it for the pleasure of watching a master director at work. It's on my ten best of the last ten years.
