Re: Panic

In the US we have a saying: "you can never be too rich or too thin."

I think Ms. Foster has something of an unusual personality and, let's face it, how many of us had a guy attempt to assassinate a president to get our attention.

So, she could be quite smart and cynical: "if these peasants will pay to watch this garbage, why shouldn't I make it?"

Interestingly, if you notice, Ms. Foster acts "in a vacuum"; she never establishes much of a relationship with her other actors in the film, even when she is supposed to. I'm think particularly of her work in the U.S. remake of the French film "The Return of Martin Guerre" (the French film had Gerard Depardieu as Martin Guerre). In the remake, the setting was the U.S. Civil War. The Martin Guerre character was played by Richard Gere; Foster played his wife. Zero chemistry. In fact, more often than not, she establishes an "anti-relationship" where it's Foster vs. the world. "Panic Room" is but the latest example.

It happens too frequently to be a coincidence.
