my 16 year old was the only one with an attitude about it. he said before the movie: 'who wants to watch a movie with a stupid dog that talks and that's the humor.'so during the movie, whenever the dog came on, and i couldn't help but laugh, i kept turning to my son, and saying: 'you don't think that dog is funny??!!'
i have to say i enjoyed the movie. the creatures and the special effects were enjoyable, lots of interesting characters, and i really enjoyed the humor. if you are saying that the first two-thirds are fine, but then it runs out of steam, i think that's an exact observation. the director ran out of ideas as you say.
but i'm definitely glad i got it and watched it. i might even watch it again. i enjoyed it and the kids enjoyed it.
