Movies from comedy to drama to your favorite Hollyweird Star.

A conundrum to be sure

My view of this film is very akin to yours - enjoyable, but not very substantial. The conundrum is why did it do wo well in the U.S. market (over $200 million!)?

If you believe that the U.S. market wants big, comic-book type films (which I do), then this picture shouldn't do that well. If you believe that the U.S. market wants superbly crafted, artistic films, this film would do better, possibly, but still not that well. And other romantic comedies haven't done that well (I don't think even "Four Weddings and a Funeral did close to this kind of business). So this one leaves me scratching my head.

"Well, a satirical piece in the Times is one thing, but bricks and baseball bats really gets right to the point. "
