More on Almodovar

These perceptive words from my friend who's known as celluloid --

Clark: Busman holidays are getting rare around here...teaching
presently Kubrick (check out the new dvd remaster of Barry Lyndon);
Frankenheimer's Seconds (yes, Rock Hudson can act!) Some Like it Hot
and Scorsese's Mean Streets...and that's just this week. It's hard to
find films this good these days; always nice to get a personal
recommendation...I like Almodovar, especially since he doesn't traffic
too much in his sexual politics. He had an interesting film a couple
years ago, Carne Tremula, a bit unlike him in many ways...even more
melodramatic, but oddly satisfying and intelligent, nonetheless. He is
unusual director in that the more preposterous the story, the better
the film. Unlike the po-mo, East Village poseur cineastes, he honors
sentiment, honesty and feeling, rarely falling into lit crowd cynicism.
Best...

"Lit crowd cynicism" -- Ya gotta love it!
