...run out right this minute and rent John Woo's Hard Boiled. It is perhaps the most high - energy action movie ever made. The plot doesn't make a great deal of sense but that doesn't really matter; Woo's gleeful over the top audacity drives the movie. It has what was claimed at the time to be the longest uninterrupted shot in any major film, a scene that begins on one floor of a building, moves to another and then down a hall, while simultaneously involving hundreds of special effects and perhaps a dozen stunts, all of which had to happen in real time. And it was all done in one take. It's a subtle moment that most viewers don't even notice, but it's a jaw - dropping display of confidence and skill by Woo.
