On the Independent channel.I think I liked it a bit less this time around. The beginning is just great, but then it becomes slightly more conventional, losing its uniqueness, and the last half an hour it is coasting down to a mediocre stop.
Somehow he wasn't able to keep the fire burn all the way through.
Still a better film than 98% out there, but if only the director had more stamina! Compare that to the Great Federico, who would start blazing and never let go till the very end. HIS pace has always been even, like he simply could never run out of creative idea, bursting with them, unable to jam enough into two hours... The pace at the end is every bit as intense as at the opening scenes - and man, you feel almost exhaused, and... ready for MORE!!!!!!!!
Almodovar apparently is much leaner with those, as he needs plugs here and there, to cover holes in the fabric.
