" Vivre Libre " ( This Land Is Mine ) show clearly that it can!
Propaganda film are mostly a bore ( not all, think of Hitch Foreign Correspondant ) this one is full of good intentions, of long rhetorics, Charles Laughton is pleasurable at length, monotone but ...I love him...Maureen O´Hara most beautiful, our Russian friend, Georges Sanders gentlemaniac plays it cool.
The whole film smell like a fake, and it look like it too.
Given the time of fear it clearly shows that J. Renoir had no good nerves as he could not seperate himself from the tragical actual even he was going through.
Charles Chaplin could.
