Frankly, after his character suffered ridiculous amounts of race-baiting, and then in the final scene, gave an "aw, shucks, that's ok," answer to Gene Hackman's character...I've had a slight problem with him.
Carl Franklin, who had a dynamite hit with "One False Move," here lends credibility to the whispers that he was a one-shot guy. This movie has it "all:" predictability; mundane dialogue; boring camera work; and a host of characters so unattractive you hope each one of them will be the next to die.
