The first one was the Dangerous Female on AMC. aka The Maltese Falcon of 1931 - the first movie based on that book. The Houston/Bogart version is universally considered far superior.... I don't know if the word "far" is right here. This one I thought offered plenty of good entertainment, actually, so I would not be so quick to dismiss it. Had some moments that were simply great. Bebe Daniels alone was worth the price of admisison.
Take a look if you have a chance.
The second one - Band of Outsiders (Bande à part), Godard's 1964 film about three inept robbers-to-be.
Not much there that needs to be said about this film - it is one of the great works of cinema art. Anna Karina steals it, of course, with her dance scene simply intoxicating.
So there is plenty of good life on television - you just don't want to give in to the sense of despair.
It seems like I can easily catch three or four good films each week. Not too bad at all, considering the general state of decline.
