I saw it again a couple of nights ago and again had the same feeling - I have no idea what the fascination is about.It is not a bad film, but I don't think it is something special either. Simply saying it is better than Gone with the Wind is silly, as Gone is a very weak film all around, not some standard of quality.
By 1939 MANY great films were already made, it is not like the movie industry was still unable to walk, and taken from that perspective the Hights is a naive and just an average effort.
