Shohei Imamura's "Warm Water Under A Red Bridge"

This 2001 film has been released on DVD and the good news is: Victor K., I've found the perfect Holiday gift for your mother-in-law! Imamura continues to explore the quirkiness of Japanese beliefs and behavior, and kinky sex, but there isn't much plot development to sustain an entire film compared to, say, his earlier "The Eel". As a result, this one seems like only half a film. But the hook in this one is female ejaculation. Lots of it. Like a busted fire hydrant. And like Odysseus drawn to the hear the sirens' song, the male protagonist (Koji Yakusho of "The Eel" and "Shall We Dance?") is obsessed with the strange woman having this condition. So stop watching "It's A Wonderful Life" this Christmas, pop this one into your DVD player, and get out your umbrellas and rain coats! Heck, for New Year's Eve, pop open those champagne bottles. Ahhh, the Holidays...
