First, the Foreign Press needs to get over their obsession with Ms. Kidman. She was a flat as her figure in this one--and you will see the comparison. I like her, but this was a nothing of script with which to work.Second, Jude Law couldn't help himself. I don't blame him, it's the vehicle he was riding in.
Third, Rene Z. was the only real highlight of the film, err movie, by being a lovable tomboy and designated comic relief.
Fourth, why bore us with yet another Homeric homage. For a moment, I thought I was watching an "O, Brother" remake. (You will see it at the creek and what it leads to . . ).
Fifth, the only thing that can keep a male in his seat is the graphic Civil War violence. Done well. Saw plenty of Southern Ladies in the audience covering their eyes all during the movie. Too, bad they didn't make this a Civil War battle epic instead of a "love triumphs over all" soap.
This flaccid film flapped in the breeze for the LONGEST 2.5 hours I have experienced in quite a while--hell, I ready to sit through ROTK again.
Holster those monocles and kill the Dom in the comfort of your cozy chair. Snzzzzzz.
