Ridley Scott's (director) 'Blackhawk Down'- how does it compare to other war films?

I just saw this one on the last day in the theatres, and it was, in one word, VISCERAL! I thought it had a lot more 'impact' than 'Saving Private Ryan', but then again, I may go back and watch some classic war films again to compare.

Some say that this was a realistic portrayal of what went on in the streets of Mogadishu (Somalia) during the U.S.'s botched attempt there back in the 90's.

One thing is for sure though. Although war sucks, these movies have given me a newfound appreciation of the people who have sacrificed their lives for us, or those who have become maimed in some way. They, and others like firefighters and rescue workers, truly are our TRUE heroes, not overpaid football or baseball players whose sole contribution to the human race is chasing after or hitting a ball!
