>>Turned out, the only other work of this director I have seen was the small 50 second bit in the Lumière and Company.<<A few years ago, I saw a film he did called Funny Games - a ludicrous story about 2 college age men who invade a family's home and torture them with "funny (BDSM) games" - which was easily one of the worst films I've ever seen and quickly forgotten: Worst... as in acting, directing, character development, plausibility, etc.
Dmitry's comment that TPT is a film you will remember forever reminded me of Requiem for a Dream, which had that effect on me, so I planned to rent TPT (if I can find it) this weekend.
Now, I'm undecided. Stay tuned.
