...by Claude Chabrol - man, what a wonderful murder suspense! - then you simply must see Merci Pour le Chocolat. In five years in between he only made three films, but finally he strikes gold again - and this one is *stylish*... and suspenseful.
Isabelle Hupert is the usual self - closed in, boiling inside but cold on the outside. Marvelous performance.
Anna Mouglalis? She's too young to really say anything, but she can be called French Liv Tyler... or is it the other way around?
I don't think you should go out of your way to find this film, but if you happen to see it on the shelf, most definitely get it. Sit back and don't rush, let the film draw you in slowly.
The ending is masterful.
BTW - La Ceremonia is one of the best performances by Isabelle, bar none. A must just because of her.
The film is also filled with music, and that is always welcome.
