Honest story, honest direction, honest acting, plain and simple honesty. There is nothing showbiz about it other than it involves a modicum of Spanish cinema as a part of Salvador Mallo's life. Banderas has grown into a master Thespian and it shows here playing a "retired" gay director who begins to take drugs for his back pain and depression. The supporting cast is, well, honest, too.
Surely, one of Almodovar's best.
