When I worked as an usher for the loews theatre chain, they opened a newly constructed major movie theatre with funny girl.
It played for many months, with long lines common in the first days. Easy rider was the only other movie that drew customers near to that volume, followed by a distant contender for long running, a movie called "boys in the band" an adaption of a stage play about gay issues, a big deal at the time.
The gay crowd was interesting for a sheltered teenager. I was caught staring at a woman, and she asked me, " what's the matter, haven't you ever seen a rampaging bull dyke before?".
I had to admit that I hadn't. I had never even heard the term before, or since, come to think go it.
one has to appreciate the diversity of people, because pissed off doesn't play well with the reality of the amount of freaks, plain or fancy, around.
