Tahar Rahim is an excellent Iranian male actor: he starred in "The Past" and the French film, "A Prophet."
Unfortunately, the director of these three Iranian films, Asghar Farhadi, has run afoul of the authorities and his palette has seriously been diminished (I think he's still under house arrest?).
To me, the giant of modern Iranian film is (now deceased) Abbas Kiarostami: "A Taste of Cherry" and "The Wind Will Carry Us" are essential films.
BTW, Victor, "The Red and the White:" as powerful a war film as ever I've seen is unavailable streaming and ridiculously priced for purchase as DVD. I know the director Jancso was censored, but does the arm of the KGB extend that far?
