Anyone seen "Into the Wild", 2007, Emile Hirsch, Hal Holbrook ?

A biographical adventure best-seller with the same title, written by Jon Krakauer. The story of Chris McCandless's life as an existential wanderer, ending his life in an abandoned school bus in interior Alaska, 1992. The film was produced by Sean Penn, and also included Marcia Gay Harden and William Hurt as his parents; and Jena Malone, Catherine Keener, Brian Dierker, Vince Vaughn, Kristen Stewart.

The mystery and romance of this guy struck a chord in many of us. And obviously in Krakauer. This is one of the great and tragic stories that generated a strong sense of knowing this kid. There's a lot of him familiar to all of us.

People from all over the world, over the years, have made pilgrimage to that bush bus to honor a sense of connection to McCandless. Not an easy trip. People have ended themselves in similar fashion back there by accidents. All my years in Alaska, I considered going to see it because I was also moved by the guy's life story, but its like sightseeing in a graveyard, ... and the mosquitoes ... damn.

Well, you can take it off your bucket list now. The state recently employed the National Guard and a Chinook chopper to haul it out of there. Destiny tbd. I hope it ends in a museum.

I'm a Krakauer fan. Read the book and find the film.
