it takes for actors to bring a character to life sometimes isn't appreciated.

I recently saw the movie and I wondered about Margot Robbie's skating. She's an Australian actress and not a lot of skating background.

To be able to get to a high-quality figure skater sans the big jumps starting from basically nothing in just 5 months is quite impressive.

"At the time, Robbie had nearly zero experience on the ice, aside from playing hockey as a teen.../... I always said to her, 'You know, if you'd started earlier, you could have actually been a skater.' It was a surprise to me how well she took to it, and how hard she worked at it..."

A film essentially about trailer trash is sometimes difficult to watch because they seem so unbelievable. How can people be this inept?

And then you see the real people the actors were portraying and you say - holy cow they really were this dysfunctional in real life.

As an aside, I liked the choreographer who said she felt Robbie could have been an actual figure skater had she started young. I remember playing pick-up ball hockey with an Ex NHL player (in the league 9 years) and he commented on my play as a goalie saying the same thing "If you played like this on ice you'd have been in the NHL"

As nice as that was to hear - it's also kind of a crushing blow because I loved playing but was a terrible skater (started too late as well). Still, it was pretty cool to hear. Albeit Robbie probably has no regrets being a world-famous movie star and one of the sexiest women on the planet. So I won't feel too sorry for her. :)
