Estella (and her mom) live a very low-key life in the English countryside. Some things happen and work dries up for mom and they decide to head to London where she could most likely get a seamstress job. But first, they must stop at "The Baroness's" estate to ask for a bit of cash for relocation. At this juncture, a bad thing happens that leads Estella to fall in with two thieving mendicants who teach her the ropes. Estella finally gets a job at London's top fashion house where she hopes to climb the ladder to designer.
First, Emma Stone is great. The part was written for her. Same for Emma Thompson. Perfectly arrogant, snide, and nasty. (Perhaps a forerunner of audio designers?)
Second, the story has been well adapted for sequels and abounds with Brit diversity throughout.
Third, a KILLER "baby boomer" sound track.
Not an artistic tour-de-force but rich in color and design. Careful you aren't too grown-up or sophisticated for it.
