"Dear Comrades!" From Andrei Konchalovsky, the

sometime Hollywood/Russian film director, comes this devastating look at the massacre of a group of protesting workers in a small factory town in Russia. The story is told from the point of view of a civic leader who is vocal in calling for the violent suppression of the workers--- until she realizes her daughter was in the midst of the protest when shots rang out.

What makes this interesting is that the event itself wasn't reported for many years--- many observers were "disappeared" as well as many of the participants. Even more intriguing: Putin laid a wreath at the site commemorating the massacre a few years ago--- yet he was a member of the organization responsible.

In a land purportedly all about worker rights, it was obviously explosive to have the government involved in a deadly attack upon unhappy workers: first off, workers weren't supposed to be discontented; secondly, the military was supposed to be part of the "workers' struggle."

Very good acting across the board. Hulu
