Great way to sum it up. 007 was perfect for the sixties but even then the production team had to juice fairly new books with kookier plots and technologies that weren't for prime time.
There are three directions to head: back to the past, back to the future, or off to the graveyard. We've had the promise of James coming back, so where will Doctor Who put him? I like the idea of sticking to the timelines of the original books and making them more dramatically intense without saving the world in every film. That will present a problem for the more modern generations who expect the world to be saved, regularly.
The hired gun writers chopped off his third leg. And were forcing him to learn the "new way". If this continues to be the drumbeat I won't be long for the series.
Just don't have James and Q Qing up.
