Apparently, he made Maid in Manhattan and Red Dragon to help fund Cronenberg's Spider.
Generally, I hate it when really good actors waste their time with schlock. They can only make so many movies a year and when Fiennes wastes time in Bond films it's a missed opportunity in my view.
On the other hand - it is the mainstream movies that get the most eyeballs and have the highest paycheques. Michael Caine said he did Jaws: The Revenge to fund some house in Monte Carlo - lol. At least he's honest.
