'Hagazussa': 15th Century Witch Noir

Oh yeah, dark, moody, tense, this story of a young girl, who loses her mother, and must grow her own self in an Alpine area where she has no real friends or people she can rely on. Albrun is befriended by Swinda who relieves some of the loneliness in her life. After Albrun receives her mother's decorated skull from the local priest, she becomes attached to it and begins to draw strength from it.

Filmed in glorious B&W with subtitles, this film will split audiences down the middle. The tedious, slow pace will either entrance or bore viewers. The dark imagery will intrigue or puzzle. The film does give an idea of how awful life was in the 1400s before the Rennaisance.

Well acted and deliberate, I enjoyed it as a prequel to 'The VVitch'.
