Frank Salerno, the detective largely credited with solving the "Hillside Strangler" (actually, should be "stranglers") case is assigned to several new cases of ultra-violence. Soon, he starts getting more and more of these while at the same time his old-time partner retires. In steps chubby young firebrand, Gil Carrillo. Det. Carrillo, a meticulous examiner of detail, notices disturbing similarities---- and the hunt for a serial killer is on.

The NS guy is fascinating for several unique characteristics, but this series focuses not only on these, but how the forensics, witnesses, and doggedness of the detectives led to his capture. Yeah, there's a lot nastiness--- I'm a little amused when critics fault these shows for it.

If you like police thrillers, this one is very good--- and it's fact.
