2021, directed by Kevin McDonald, with Jodie Foster, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Tahar Rahim.
Based on the book (and life) "Guantanamo Diaries" by the Mahamedou Slahi, locked away fourteen years -- without charges -- and tortured in Gitmo for alleged involvement in the 9/11 attacks.
This is a true story, as stated in the credits, and graphically illustrates the horrors behind the fences.
Defending and prosecuting attorneys at Slahi's hearing are played by Foster and Cumberbatch.
There are two concurrent themes here -- Slahi's life, and Gitmo. The atrocities are well-known, initiated by W and Rumsfeld, and were eventually stopped altogether in 2014 or 2016.
Slahi was eventually released and wrote his book. Rahim's performance of him is Oscar-worthy imo. A beautiful sensitive and nuanced portrayal.
I highly recommend that everyone see this. Great acting, great theme, great story, and you won't want to miss Cumberbatch's southern accent.
