"Invitation" - the pastel gem

How do you paint the sparkle of a diamond with pastel? Look at the Invitation. Rarely will you see a movie gentler and softer and simpler. No big events, the camera is there and not there, almost completely detached, with no action, no plot. Just few people trying to have good innocent time. When was it that Hollywood had discovered that normal people were shallow, and true depth only existed in the realm of idiots, bastards and fake heros? Apparently the director of this gem missed that important discovery.
One can not state too often that art is not in the subject, it is in the means. Not much subject in Invitation, really, just a good dose of art.
