I read that the DVD has a "full screen" aspect ratio of 4:3, like a conventional TV screen, claiming that this is the format of the original camera negative, as Kubrick intended. Does this mean that when I saw it at the theater the top and bottom of the image was cropped to fit 1.85:1?
If so, then viewing it on DVD would be a considerably different experience.
