No, it is not "Red". It is not even "Reds".It is "High Heels", Pedro Almodóvar's masterpice. I don't recall another movie SOOOO dominated by a single color that you are about to scream. And so beautiful that you choke that scream and just keep watching.
There is red EVERYWHERE. And then there is some more red. Red lips occupying 40% of the screen. The rest - that dreadful red Chanel uniform. Someone please tell the director that all those ugly Chanel suites don't become young ladies? They are for the Hollywood matrons and madams...
Almodovar never made a great movie. But all his movies are fun to watch, are witty and interesting. This is great achievement in itself. You never spent days thinking about one of his works, but you also never feel raped or cheeted or wanting to throw up after watching it.
And by the way: piece of trivia. What did Bibi Anderson do there? Who the hell was Suzanna?
Good use of old Mina's songs, those old-familiar and haunting ones. Good choice, good choice... And that jail yard dance sequence is alone worth watching - it is simply riveting.
After watching the movie - quick look at the pair of Spanish cavalry swords - and yep - they have the royal RED crosses on them.
