Toppling another monument

Some of you will probably remember how I feel about Tarkovsky and his films. For those of you who don't - he used to belong to a rather small group of true artists.

Until recently.

In my life I have witnessed two great monument destructions. First one was after the 1956, when all images of Stalin were removed. That included the humangous, thirty feet or so, statue on one of the Leningrad hills. One morning it was gone, so I asked my father... but I didn't get far.

Second one - the Berling wall.

Now this...

Shostakovich in his memoires writes how during the filming of Andrey Rublev Tarkovsky wanted a shot of a cow running all ungulfed in flames. No one wanted to do this, so he himself drenched the poor beast in kerosene and set it on fire. I don't recall that scene, but it is apparently quite striking.

No shit.

I don't know about you, but to me these things do matter a lot. I despise that sort of cruelty and unless I hear a conflicting account, this man is gone. He can take his Stalker and shove it. His broken Mirror too.
