Rented this tape last night.1976 vintage Peter Yates film about wacky characters a seedy LA ambulance company. Starring (are you ready for this?) Bill Cosby, Raquel Welch and Harvey Keitel in the title roles.
Cosby as the wisecracking yet introspective drunken lead driver/party boy (arguably his best film role), Welch as the bombshell dispatcher that desperately wants to be a driver and a *very* young Keitel as another driver that was a war hero/ex cop accused of selling amphetamines to kids. Also starring Larry Hagman and Dick Butkus.
Lots of amusing moments with the ambulance company competing with a rival company for horribly obnoxious patients. Film also includes nun abuse, fat people abuse and drug abuse. Lots of pathos too. Love scenes between Welch and Keitel are a real beauty and the beast kinda thing. No nudity, it's 1976 after all!
Really great dated entertainment. I liked it *way* more that Scorscesse's relentlessly depressing ambulance movie (called "Bringing out the Dead" I think) from last year.
