Movies from comedy to drama to your favorite Hollyweird Star.

Now, let's be honest, Dmitry...

If you were REALLY going to that tiny island for the rest of your life, and you were given the choice between these two admittedly drekky films to take with you as the only film you were allowed to watch for the remainder of your life - it wouldn't be the Gladiator - would it?

Digging throught the two piles of drek with long stick, we shall still find more grain for birds in Caligula.

Let's face it, the Gladiator is as shallow as it gets. It is like a children's colorful 5-page Bible brochure in the dentist' office (sorry). To say it required ANY acting is laughable - everything is binary there, with just two bits of resolution that were required.

There is much, much more in Caligula. Believe it or not, but I actually found the orgy scene the most boring of the whole film (although I do believe Kubrick just should have lifted it in its entirety - instead of attempting his own, most ridiculous version, even more boring...), but there ARE sparkles of interesting acting and even "fabula" here and there. It is far more three-dimensional.

And besides, EVERY movie with Helen Mirren is a must see... I am sure we can agree on THAT one, can't we?

I will just repeat a couple of lines from the brief review:

"This film, as with all, has good points and bad points.

In general, I feel that the good ones far outweigh the bad."

See the review link. I mostly agree with it.

Anyway, as they say, just my two rubles... and you know how much it is worth.
