Decipherable audio in "seven"

205.188.193.47

Just watched "Seven" on cable TV through my admittedly modest TV set-up of an Onkyo stereo receiver and 4 JBL in-wall speakers. Found parts of the audio track virtually indecipherable--had to turn the receiver way up to make conversation intelligible (with accompanying background noise and unbearably loud non-conversation sounds). Found myself playing with the remote for the entire movie--thought about muting the TV so I'd get closed captioning.

I seem to remember feeling the same way when I saw the movie in the theater, but I chalked it up to less-than-optimum theater sound.

Does the DVD platinum version have a better soundtrack and would need the latest technologies like Dolby Digital to benefit from it???
TIA,
Bruce
