Saw it in the theater with English subtitles and liked it. Maybe something is added by the large image size. Maybe something is taken away by a bad English dub. There is a certain exotic quality to the film, which, perhaps is enhanced by the Mandarin dialogue.Sorry you didn't care for it.
The only really satisfying dub I've ever seen is the dub version of "Das Boot," which I saw after the subtitled version in the original German.
