All I can say after is watching this movie is "Wow!" Story-wise it wasn't anything special, but the climbing sequences and special effects were worth the price of admission. I watched a program on AMC hosted by Stan Winston detailing some of the effects used in this movie prior to watching "Vertical Limits" so I knew some of what to expect. The scene where they drop the rescue party from the helicopter is a real nail-biter. On a scale of one to five, I'd give this a 3+.
