The reason I react that strongly to other doing the same idea is that it had that undeniable "look and feel" that is immediately recognizable and is sort of copywritable. If you have not seen it, it is a must. Not polished in all areas, but considering its age...
It's got some of the most bone-chilling moments, and surprise - with no blood involved. Just the sheer anticipation of horror that is more horrifying than the horror itself... the art that was certainly lost later.
